Heart Waves attracted me in the description with the mention of Romeo and Juliet.  Though the story itself isn't a remake the story I totally get the reference. The was a little bit of everything in this story so it could attract many different types of readers.  Of course it is a love story but there is a slight paranormal element to it as well as being contemporary.  Personally there is not one thing about any of those genres that don't attract me and I found myself continually wanting to pick the book back up when I put it down.

What I loved most about this read was the pacing.  It was never stuck in a slump or repetitive of things, which drives me nuts.  The story of Jenna and Reese constantly moved forward.  From the moment Jenna realized that Reese would break her heart to the moment that I closed the book there was constant progression.  Though I can't say that I always enjoyed the revelations and the way they turned out, I know that it was needed for the story itself.

Jenna was for the most part an excellent main character.  Despite her prediction and knowing from it that she was to love Reese, she didn't just jump into everything with him.  I really appreciated that and so will so many other people out there.  I mean if she had been like"I know you will break my heart but that's okay lets just jump in bed" I would have been upset, that wasn't who she was.  A girl that doesn't date much or ever really has to be more cautious. Jenna's reactions and behavior remained consistent and believable throughout the novel but sometimes there was a twinge of something inside of me that wished she would have been a little more forward.  However Jenna felt real.  Her emotions and attitude dictated someone that I honestly believe I could be around which made her easy to read.

Truth be told I liked Reese... A LOT.  Problem was for awhile I didn't know if he was really into Jenna, was just messing with her or why he liked her.  Thing was I'm not sure I cared to start.  He was a very charismatic character and so, so easy to fall for.  I mean my heart sped up frequently with the sweet things he did for Jenna and I hoped with all of my might that he really was falling for her and really did love her.  He had such confidence that she should be with him and refused to give up on her no matter how many times she shut him down.  At first I thought maybe he was just that cocky but the more you read him the more you will realize just how genuine he really is but there was always something just beneath the surface that I couldn't pin point.  You know when you reach for something but just can't quite grasp it?  That feeling surfaced with me a couple times but his charming ways melted my heart like Jenna's but the feeling of something darker just beneath the surface lingered.

The romance was really the heart of this book and it had ups and downs.  This is so hard to write because Jenna didn't just jump into it but once she let Reese in everything developed really quickly.  Though I normally would not agree with the parents, I did with Jenna's at times.  They did immediately become really attached but the redeeming thing was that they grew the relationship.  Took the physical advances (even kissing) slow and learned about each other.  They had arguments and I loved the  witty remarks that Jenna seemed to come up with.  I think their biggest problems were the unspoken ones.  The ones that lurked in the shadows waiting to pounce because they were hidden and unspoken.  You know the saying what they don't know wont hurt them? So untrue!

I am absolutely, positively excited to start Breaking Waves.  I can't even tell you how happy I am that it is already in my hands!! Though there isn't a cliff hanger per say, there is enough of a question that I am in need of the next one.  Danielle Sibarium did a wonderful job with her pacing, characters and story with Heart Waves.  I look forward to more of her simplistic, yet drawing writing in the next book.

I shook my head sadly. "No."  I paused a moment, and found my breath. "You're going to break my heart."I reached for his hand, his strong, warm hand, and took hold of it.  I didn't want to ever let go.  I placed the ring in his palm, closed his fingers around it, turned and walked away.

The night after the party I tried to convince myself I suffered from temporary insanity.  There's no such thing as love at first sight, and people don't form instant connections with perfect strangers.

"And if he wants to be your soul mate, your one true love and open doors for you and come to your rescue, or recite beautiful poetry to you, let him, because guys like that are far and few between."

This was the turning point. The day would end badly.  No matter how many positive thoughts I tried desperately to reach out and take hold of, each one moved just out of my grasp.

Book #2

From the moment they met, Jenna knew Reece would break her heart, but she never dreamed it would happen like this. Jenna is left shattered and broken. When life becomes too painful to deal with and she feels completely alone, there’s only one person to help her pick up the pieces and move on. The one person she doesn’t want to turn to. The one person she promised to stay away from. Tyler.

Holy.  Just wow.  Though my heart didn't quite soar in this one the way it did in Heart Waves, this one brought something new to the table.  This one was the pain, the utter heart break of losing the one you love and trying to heal.  The consistent thing about these novels and Sibaruim's writing is that it provokes emotion.  It makes you feel.  You can feel your heart break with Jenna's, feel the pain and loss, the struggle to regain some form of life and the fight not to feel something that your heart wants.

The story you get with this one was all about the heart break and healing.  Even if that meant reaching out to the one person that she was asked to stay away from.  To me I just kept on feeling like there was something going on under the surface the entire time, like there was a missing puzzle piece and I just couldn't find it.  Despite this and maybe because of it I constantly felt an urgent pull to get to the end.  To me this one answered some questions and left some more unsaid for the next book.  I know this description left a lot out in the open but I really want you to be intrigued!

Jenna was a little harder on me in this book than the last.  I know I am being hard on the poor heart broken girl and most of us have been there but there were times I just could have screamed.  I get that your soul mate, your other half, true other half isn't something that you can easily replace but she needed to suck it up.  Then she seemed to make a series of really bad or sad decisions and I really started to feel bad for her.  I wanted her to pull herself together and make a decision for herself, not because of someone else or their opinion.  Then it happened but guilt still ate at her but by now I am starting to get the swing of it and she is getting stronger.  By the end the girl nailed it and was back to the girl I loved, even without Reece.

The catch to this one I think is Tyler.  I was like a freaking revolving door of love when it came to him.  I didn't know if I loved him and wanted him in or wanted to shut him the heck out!!  He is the type of guy that can crawl under your skin and make you extremely happy or make your skin that much less comfortable.  I want to believe he is just a shatter and misunderstood soul that needs someone to love and to be loved back.  Problem with this was I couldn't help but feel something (that something I spoke of earlier) was not right and there was so ulterior motive.  I have this inner hope that he can be more and rise above whatever is haunting him but I fear that he will pull Jenna into something she wont see coming until it's too late.

I feel like there should be more to this review, more to say but I really can't without destroying this one for you.  Despite my ups and downs with the characters (probably mostly emotional) I really enjoyed this read.  Honestly I tore through this book and am in dire need of the next one because I need to know what the heck is going down.  Not to mention I want to know how right or how wrong I am about Tyler, Reece and Jenna.  Fans of contemporary romance will really enjoy this and if your taste runs toward something with paranormal this has a slight sprinkling of that too!!

In the hours after my parents broke the news to me, the phones remained silent.  No one knew.  Only Reece's family and mine.  The silence, although deafening  was worlds better than the calls and condolences that would follow.

At first, I stood in the back of the room, gathering my strength.  My mother's hand stroked my arm gently.  I met her frightened eyes, nervous and broken.  My soul was shattered, splintered into tiny shards.

Nothing held my interest.  Books were worthless.  Why would I want to read about someone else's happy ending love life?  Or worse, a broken heart that only served as a reminder to me of my own anguish?

No matter how he denied it, I felt Tyler wanted more than I could give.  Like he expected eventually I'd be able to swap Reece's place in my heart with one for him.

About the Author

Danielle Sibarium grew up as an only child of divorced parents in Brooklyn, New York. Her imagination was developed at an early age. Surrounded by stuffed animals and imaginary friends, she transported herself into a fantasy world full of magic and wonder. Books were the gateway between her play world and reality. On any given summer afternoon she became Snow White sweeping and cooking for the dwarfs, or Cinderella waiting for the prince.
Danielle always loved dialogue and in elementary school began writing plays and short stories.  This is when she began to understand she could not only bring her fantastical world to life for herself, but she could enchant others as well. And so she wrote. She wrote and wrote and wrote.
Sadly the first piece she ever sent out for publication of any sort was a letter to the editor of The Home News Tribune. It was a piece thanking the first responders for their bravery and selflessness on Sept 11th. It was chosen as letter of the week.
In 2007 Danielle collaborated with Charlotte Doreen Small to write songs for her CD More.  Danielle wrote the lyrics for Take My Hand, and Goodbye, while Charlotte contributed the melody. In October 2011 Danielle’s debut novel For Always was released. She has since released Heart Waves and the second book in the Heart Waves series, Breaking Waves. Danielle graduated from Farleigh Dickinson University with honors, and currently lives in New Jersey with her husband and three children.
