Guest Post

 Character Envy

When asked to be a part of Mermaids & Myth Month, I was so excited…especially when Tiffany wanted a guest post about which character from The Syrenka Series I’d want to be.

First, the obvious answer for me was to be Eviana or one of the other mermaids. That’s been a dream of mine - even so far as wanting to create gills as part of my dissertation work. But then I thought about it a little more. Arranged marriages, clan leading, world peace…hmmm. That’s a lot.

Selkies would be cool because their transition (in my world) is so easy. One second they’re
human, the next, a graceful seal. But they are limited within their society and have a lot of rules I’m not sure I’d like to follow.

So I actually think I’d want to be a water sprite. They’re flexible with their form, can travel through water anywhere on the planet, and are pretty fierce when they want to be. Sure, they have to eat a human or two every once and a while….but a girl’s gotta eat! Plus I could shift into whatever type of human I wanted to be. I believe we have a winner.

Amber Garr spends her days conducting scientific experiments and wondering if her next door neighbor is secretly a vampire. Born in Pennsylvania, she lives in Florida with her husband and their furry kids. Her childhood imaginary friend was a witch, Halloween is sacred, and she is certain that she has a supernatural sense of smell. She writes both adult and young adult urban fantasies and when not obsessing over the unknown, she can be found dancing, reading, or enjoying a good movie.

  3. I don't know about water sprite, what with the whole eating humans thing. When I was a kid and someone asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, I always said mermaid (my daughter says princess) and I will stick with that :)

  7. Water sprites sound cool, though I suppose you could bend the rules of Selkies in a future story to suit your needs, too :) Thanks for the giveaway!
