{Guest Post & Giveaway} Karen A. Hooper

I am so excited to have Karen kick this off.  She was the first Mer book I had picked up
in a long time and I still LOVE it and pick it up from time to time.  I mean who doesn't
revisit their favorites?!  Anyway meet the fun that is Karen!!

 Guest Post

 Mermaids and myths. *happy sigh*

I’m so honored and excited to part of Mermaid and Myth month. However, I’d like to clarify that I love mermen too and a few have contacted me to ask why this event only include mermaids. I told them it’s because girls rule and to simmer down and that maybe if they behaved we’d give them a mermen month someday. They shut up, held their heads high, flexed their washboard abs, and swam away peacefully. But now Mermen Month is something we should consider.

Moving on...

Tiff wanted me to talk about a day in the life of a mermaid author.

Because I live in Florida, I’m lucky enough to start each day with a stroll along a powdery white beach while watching the sunrise and scanning the waves for shimmering tails and fins. I then proceed to do yoga on the shoreline as waves lap against my feet and birds fly over singing me inspirational story ideas. Once I’m renewed and energized by all the beautiful nature around me, I sit in my private beach cabana with my laptop and write stories about all my beloved sea creatures.

Lovely image, isn’t it?

Also, totally NOT TRUE.

Okay, I do live in Florida and I’m only twenty minutes from the beach, but I’m lucky if I get to the beach once a month. The sun rising is what wakes me up--I’m rarely awake early enough to see it rise--and my only morning stroll is to the kitchen for a highly caffeinated cup of coffee. The only tails I see are the ones on my two dogs waiting to go outside and be fed--their tails don’t shimmer but they do wag a lot. I do love yoga, and I always intend to start my day with yoga because it does help me feel better, but I always decide I’ll start doing yoga tomorrow (Note to self: Seriously, start doing yoga tomorrow)
so basically the only workout I get is bicep curling my mug of coffee and York peppermint patties up to my lips. I don’t have a beach cabana, but I do have a really comfy writing chair and that’s where I sit and create my stories. Most days I write (or do writing related stuff) from about 8am until noon. Then I do all this other pain-in-the-butt real life stuff like office work, laundry, cleaning, grocery shopping, etc. At night, I usually try to read or watch a little TV.

I know, I know, so glamorous and magical. What can I say, I’m living the dream.

Thanks so much for having me, Tiff!

*hugs to all the mermaid and myth lovers*

~Karen

  4. I loved how you opened your day. You almost had me. I can picture it also. But, I do have a pool and spend time on the patio with my Kindle and laptop, taking a merbreak dip when the mood strikes me.

Tiff, your review makes me want this book even more than I would just because it's a merbook.

Thanks to you both for a couple of great posts.

  7. ^^ It's true we don't read a lot about mermen.... in fact so far i can only think of two... the mermen in the series " sentinel of new orleans" by suzanne johnson ( i loved those!)
and i've read about a siren in the series Charlie Madigan by Kelly gay but that's all so i really want more of them ^^
thank you a lot for this guest post Karen i enjoyed to learn about one of your day^^ and i 'm sure your dogs wouldn't want to share you with mermen ^^

  8. I love that description of the start to your day. I wish I could live in Florida at all, even if not by a beach. I live in VA and we have nasty Virginia Beach a few minutes from me but it's gross. I would love to have FL weather, even with the humidity. It stays crazy humid here too.

  9. I have to admit I don't think I've read many, if any, mermaid books, however after reading Karen's other book Grasping At Eternity, I fell in love with her writing style and characters that I have since added this one to my to-read pile, I just sadly haven't had time to read it yet.
Thank you Karen not only writing great books but for donating a copy of Tangled Tides for this giveaway.
