Waiting on Wednesday: Half Bad by Sally Green

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week my pick is:

Expected Release:  March 4, 2014
Published by: Viking Juvenile
Release Formats: Hardcover, Ebook

A stunning, magical debut. An international sensation.

In modern-day England, witches live alongside humans: White witches, who are good; Black witches, who are evil; and fifteen-year-old Nathan, who is both. Nathan’s father is the world’s most powerful and cruel Black witch, and his mother is dead. He is hunted from all sides. Trapped in a cage, beaten and handcuffed, Nathan must escape before his sixteenth birthday, at which point he will receive three gifts from his father and come into his own as a witch—or else he will die. But how can Nathan find his father when his every action is tracked, when there is no one safe to trust—not even family, not even the girl he loves?

In the tradition of Patrick Ness and Markus Zusak, Half Bad is a gripping tale of alienation and the indomitable will to survive, a story that will grab hold of you and not let go until the very last page.

 Why I am Waiting
  1. It must be obvious that I am drawn in by the description!! Who wouldn't be because it sounds like this book is going to rock some serious worlds!
  2. Though I am not a huge fan of the cover, I must admit there is something about it that I like.  However, I just can't put my finger on it but hopefully it has some sort of draw for you as well.
  3. Normally witches are not my thing but I find that every single one that I have picked up that is published by an imprint of Penguin, I have enjoyed immensely!
  4. It's from a guys POV... Need I say more on that fact?

What are you waiting on this week?  I love adding books to my NEED list :) So, let me know!

Weekly Report: A Non-Bookish Christmas and a Bookish New Year!

Weekly Report is my way of showing you from week to week (most of the time) what new books I received and what has gone on in the past week. So basically it's a report for all the awesome that I got and shared! Originally I posted IMM by Story Siren this is just my version with a little extra ;) all book names take you to the Goodreads page.

So I hope everyone had a great holiday!! Mine was crazy busy with a side of insane!!! However, this year was also the first year that I did not receive bookish gifts... *GASP* Shocked the heck right out of me too!! Now that did not stop my bookish purchases :)  So between used book stores and Chapters in store specials I had an AMAZING bookish New Year!! Below is my proof :)

Bought

From a used book store in Port Perry that I have not been to in forever because it seemed that there
was never anything new that I wanted.  When I walked by this time I decided to take a chance and I
think I did well considering these were all together under $20!!!

Then on to BMV!! I freaking love BMV and try to make a point of stopping at, at least one every
time I am in Toronto <3  These were all $4.99...  Can you say you would pass that up?

Same day as BMV hubby took me to Chapters.  Below are all my $4.99 purchases again! Well
Dead Silence was like 13-something but rather than that ya...  And I can only hope you can
understand why I HAD TO buy them!

For Review
I am not sure how many of you know the awesome Mer Author Sutton Shields but I think
more of you need to!! This woman and her characters rock my socks off <3  She is one of
the sweetest people I sweat and her personality is freaking EPIC!! Anyway is was happy dance

Looking for a Little Help: Reviewer(s) Wanted

So, this is a hard thing for me to post.  I have done this on my own for so long and was determined that it would continue that way.  Blogging is something that I love and with everything going on it is becoming a little overwhelming but I am not willing to give blogging up either.  Being in school and being a part of the amazing Bookish team has me thinking that a little help would not hurt me and that there are many wonderful people out there that I could work with.  I am basically looking for a person/people that share my love of books and want to have some fun blogging as well.

I'm not sure how many people I am looking for but I am thinking 1-2.  I don't want a huge team because I still plan on working my behind off, I am just looking for 1-2.  People that are willing to write 1-4 posts a month or so.  The amount is discussable and I don't want to put any pressure on the people.  Everyone has a life and I get that and I just expect you to keep me up to speed.  If you can't post that is okay but just let me know so I can work to fill the space :)  I am easy to please and work with (or at least I think I am).

For now I am looking for just general reviewers, people that like a little bit of most things.  When you email me just let me know if there is anything that you absolutely will not review.  I do ask that you send me a link to a review that you have written previously of a sample :)  It can be on Goodreads or Facebook or anywhere that you have posted your love for a book.

So... If you want to be a part of a blogging pair/team I would love for you to consider Escaping... One Book @ a Time!! You can contact me at- escaping.onebook@gmail.com!  Look forward to hearing from you!

Once again Violet Eden faces an impossible choice ... and the consequences are unimaginable.

Violet has come to terms with the fact that being part angel, part human, means her life will never be as it was.

Now Violet has something Phoenix - the exiled angel who betrayed her - will do anything for, and she has no intention of letting it fall into his hands. The only problem is that he has something she needs too.

Not afraid to raise the stakes, Phoenix seemingly holds all the power, always one step ahead. And when he puts the final pieces of the prophecy together, it doesn't take him long to realise exactly who he needs in order to open the gates of Hell.

With the help of surprising new allies, ancient prophecies are deciphered, a destination set and, after a shattering confrontation with her father, Violet leaves for the islands of Greece without knowing if she will have a home to return to...

I have no clue where to even start with this one. The first two of this series really had me entranced. I mean I devoured them, love triangle and all but this one just didn't do it for me. Not that I didn't read it and enjoy it to a point but is what not what I thought it was going to be. I believe it served its purpose in the series, though I had hopes that some things would be resolved and allow some development in other areas. The entire fighting to stay apart and the reasons are just starting to run me a little thin. The writing was still wonderful and possibly why I still found myself interested.

The plot as always was not what I would call steady but there is consistencies in it. There are parts that may be a little slower but everything is balanced out with action or some sort of twist. The characters are still all torn up with what happened in the last novel but also have to deal with the consequences of the happenings. There are far less rainbows and butterflies, more angst.  This one lacked in areas where the others had excelled.  I found the plot just a tad predictable, even though I had tried to make it less so in my mind.  There is still a lot to enjoy and I think I am sounding more negative than I mean to because despite the fact that the plot had its holes, I still started and finished being glad I picked the book up.

I have always liked Violet for her determined ways and developing character.  She has continued to develop in some ways but she has also stays the same.  I have admired the strength that she carries within her and the fact that she is determined to be able to take care of herself.  She feels the need now more than ever to take care of herself but this also makes her make reckless mistakes.  Like meeting with Phoenix and not telling anyone.  I get that she is heartbroken over the Lincoln thing but she really just needs to make the decision to remove herself from the situation or get with him, screw the possible consequences.  Personally I am one for screw the consequences but she is most definitely not.  So despite Violet's growth, in order for her to fully develop I think she needs to make a decision.

Now when it comes to the boys, I think that I am beyond confused.  This has to be one of the most difficult love triangles EVER!  I used to think I was Team Lincoln but after this I may have to go Team Phoenix.  Despite the fact that Linc is great and I love him, I just can not handle his hot and cold any more.  In every way he could be perfect with Violet but because of fear they play this dance that makes me want to trip them and drag them through the mud.  I just think that they could make the decision to be responsible and deal with the consequences if they happen or behave like mature people and accept the fact that they can't ever be together.  Where Linc is angering me, I think Phoenix is steppting in because at least his feelings and what he wants are in the open.  Yes, he was sneaky to start and maybe went about a few things the wrong way but I think somewhere in there he learned what he really wanted.  Not to mention that the little thing that him and Violet have going on is something that could ease the transition, plus she secretly meets with him as it is so how bad could a few more meetings to check out his intentions be.

Overall this may not have been my favourite book in the series so far but Shirvinton is a talented author and I still have really high hopes for how things will go in the next book and the in the finale.  I think that many series that go over the trilogy mark suffer from a filler book at some point and time and this was the book for The Violet Eden Chapters.  There were things that this book had to accomplish and I believe that it did that but I am looking forward to some movement.

Dapper surprised me by sheathing an impressive-looking sword and slinging it over his shoulder before heading out.  Two thoughts came to mind when I saw it. Kill Bill   and   I'm going to have to broaden my weapon range.

It was more   much, much more.  It transcended anything he and I could ever be individually and was all about what we were together.  My soul was screaming for him, demanding that it have his.

I nodded, my short-lived excitement fading fast.  I turned to ask Lincoln what he thought that meant, but he'd already disappeared outside.
Way to make a girl feel pretty.

The second MYSTIC CITY novel . . . it's Romeo & Juliet in a dystopic Manhattan.

A city in flames. A trust betrayed. A perfect love destroyed. Has Aria lost Hunter, her one true love?

Ever since rebellion broke out in Mystic City, pitting the ruling elite against the magic-wielding mystics, Aria has barely seen her boyfriend. Not surprising, since Hunter is the leader of the mystic uprising, and he'll do whatever it takes to win freedom for his people — even if that means using Aria.

But Aria is no one's pawn. She believes she can bring the two warring sides together, save the city, and win back the Hunter she fell in love with.

Before she can play peacemaker, though, Aria will need to find the missing heart of a dead mystic. The heart gives untold powers to whoever possesses it, but finding it means seeking out a fierce enemy whose deepest desire is for Aria to be gone — forever.
