Review: Pulse by Kailin Gow

17 year-old Kalina didn t know her boyfriend was a vampire until the night he died of a freak accident. She didn t know he came from a long line of vampires until the night she was visited by his half-brothers Jaegar and Stuart Greystone. There were a lot of secrets her boyfriend didn t tell her. Now she must discover them in order to keep alive. But having two half-brothers vampires around had just gotten interesting.

Kalina is dealing with a lot! She may not have agreed with the way her ex boyfriend lived his life, who she thought was drunk all the time but she cared deeply for him.  Through all of her anger and pain she still cares for him.  When she meets Stuart who claims to be his half brother she can't help but see part of Aaron in him.  However she feels he is stronger, more mature and everything she had wished that Aaron would become.  Then she meets Jaegar who is also Aaron's other brother but is nothing like Aaron or Stuart.  He seems to embrace everything about being a predator and has no shame about it.  Jaegar is honest in almost every aspect and makes it clear that he is nothing short of dangerous but that wont stop the attraction she feels for him.  How can she be attracted to him and feel so much for Stuart though?

I have to say that although I felt this book had a lot of what we feel is the norm or cliche for paranormal/vampire books I can't help but feel addicted!! I love Kailin's writing and how fast paced the books are and this one was no different for me.  I will admit that there was a very clear and intense love triangle and the girl that is special but doesn't know why in the book.  Sometimes I find this very boring and monotonous but Kailin made it exceptionally interesting.

The main character Kalina is very outspoken for the most part I found.  However it was irritating that she always considered and pointed out first Aaron was a drunk before anything else.  I often found myself wondering if she had stopped and asked him ever why he was that way.  Her attitude really worked for her though most of the time and made her a much stronger character if you ask me.  With now two vampires trying to get her attention she needs all of the attitude she can get.  When dealing with Stuart she was affectionate almost every time, but she seemed too attached to him from the start for me. Once she clearly meets Jaegar she feels attracted but tries her best to push him away, basically because she felt he was evil.  Her affections for both of the brothers a very clear though!!

Overall I really enjoyed this book!  Kailin Gow's books are always fast paced and to the point, so you don't really get any down time.  There is a MAJOR cliff hanger at the end and I am currently in the process of getting book 2 from the Book Depository because I need to know!! I think that if you enjoy the Vampire Diaries or Twilight you will enjoy this book.  The writing is completely different but you get the romance and intense vamps!

  3. I think I might skip this one. I'm tired of love triangles where it is clear that she is going to choose the good guy and the bad guy has no chance. Evil is a strong word for a guy who likes his vampiric nature; there is nothing wrong with that because that is what he is.

If the library has it,then I'll pick it up.

  4. I'm not familiar with this author and hadn't heard of this book. I don't think it's my cup of tea, but my daughter really liked the Twilight books and the Vampire Diaries so I will tell her about it, she might really enjoy it. Thanks for the review.
