**REVIEW** Perfect Summer by Kailin Gow

Two hot brothers, one steady and secured, groomed to take over their family’s billion dollar enterprise. The other, a rising football star whose body is well-known to women of all ages in print and in person. Both in love with the same woman, whom they can’t have – Summer Jones, their sister’s best friend since childhood, and the girl they promised to protect.

She’s never been so lost in her life, following the tragedy that rocked her steady and secured life. Always the perfect girl, the good girl who does everything to take care of everyone else, she’s now the one who’s fallen too far. Not Drew, not Nat, and not even Rachel. She knows she has to choose and make a decision. She knows she has to do the right thing, but as she decides with her mind, her heart rebels. Her desire for both Donovan brothers has grown insatiable and an addiction so much so that lines are blurred and nothing is clear. Just when everything seems bleak and hopeless, comes a revelation so deep, that what seems far from perfect becomes perfect in what turns out to be the Donovan’s most perfect summer.

Review

Kailin has a way of creating characters and situations that just pull you in.  Falling for Summer created a handful of those characters and my heart still gets pulled to them, despite the growing tension and indecision.  Perfect Summer solved some problems but created others.  With a few new twists and the characters having to dig deeper within themselves to figure out what they want, things get interesting.

Summer is dealing with a lot in her life with the loss of her Aunt Sookie and with this she has grown.  Problem is that she seems to be getting in over her head with everything and I found that even though she wanted to be strong on her own she just couldn't without either Nat or Drew.  Though I don't believe she wants to rely on anyone because that's just not the type of girl she is.  I would also like to mention that though everyone seems to think she is an innocent girl, Summer has matured and isn't quite the sweet little innocent she was before.  This girl is growing up and evolving.

There was not much Rachel in this book and I must say I am starting to miss her.  But her lack of presence in this one gave room for Nat and Drew.  Seeing I am team Drew I will start with Nat.  Though I am on his brothers team I will admit that he did grow on me a little.  He is really showing Summer what it means to be with him and putting it all on the line and despite how genuine his feelings for her seem to be I can't help but wonder why now?  He knew his brother liked her and consciously made the decision to start showing summer her cared for her, that is my biggest issue.

Drew broke my heart in this one and made me angry at times as well.  He seems at his best when he is with Summer, she genuinely brings out the best in him and he gave up the fight.  When I read it my jaw dropped and all that ran through my mind was "you idiot!"  It was painfully obvious he still loved her but he pushed and pulled her in so many directions it hurt to read.  I want his strength and determination to return and for him to prove she is more than just a foolish crush, that she is his better half and the love of his life.  Even with girls hanging off him left, right and centre Drew is what works best.

Although the story does have some revelations (Summer telling Astor they are only friends) I didn't find a lot of forward progress.  The upside of this was that there were many more hot NA scenes, I was practically breathing heavy myself!  Drew definitely had me wishing I was Summer a couple of times **cough shower scene cough** but Nat did his fair share as well.  Kailin has created a love triangle that I find myself hopelessly addicted to and can't get enough of.  I am looking forward to the next novel and some forward movement that includes Drew.  Pick this up if you love NA and can handle a heated love triangle!  You won't regret it.

Quotes
He was better than I ever thought he'd be when we got together.  His skin against mine, his fingers exploring my body inch by inch. His tongue bringing me to the height of ecstasy.

Now I have to pay the price... the price of loving two incredible men, who were brothers, and the price of breaking either or both of their hearts with mine.  Whatever mistakes I've made, whatever actions I've taken, there was no turning back.

"It's one way or another, summer.  For me, it's black and white.  You're either in the friend zone or the lover zone.  And with you... Gosh, summer, you're in my danger zone.  My rip-my-heart-out and change-me-forever zone.  I have to tread lightly with you.  Because if I don't, I may never be able to find my way back.

  1. I didn't even know this one was out! I really liked Loving Summer and Falling For Summer. Now I need to check it out or something. But then again, Drew...goodness. He's my boy. Not sure I could take him breaking my heart. Waaah.

    Great review, girl!

  2. Wow, a love triangle you were hopeless addicted to? Do you normally like love triangles or do they normally bother you? Sometimes I can deal with them, it just depends on the subject matter and the quality of writing.

  3. First of all, girl needs to eat a burger or two. She is too, too skinny. Other than that, it is a pretty cover and I want to be there right now! As far as the story, I honestly think I wouldn't make it too far with it. And it may end up thrown against the wall. Love triangles.... I just don't think that I can do it. I am rather impressed that you enjoyed this one so much! And I am glad that you did!
