**REVIEW** Outpost by Ann Aguirre

Deuce’s whole world has changed. Down below, she was considered an adult. Now, topside in a town called Salvation, she’s a brat in need of training in the eyes of the townsfolk. She doesn’t fit in with the other girls: Deuce only knows how to fight.
To make matters worse, her Hunter partner, Fade, keeps Deuce at a distance. Her feelings for Fade haven’t changed, but he seems not to want her around anymore. Confused and lonely, she starts looking for a way out.
Deuce signs up to serve in the summer patrols—those who make sure the planters can work the fields without danger. It should be routine, but things have been changing on the surface, just as they did below ground. The Freaks have grown smarter. They’re watching. Waiting. Planning. The monsters don’t intend to let Salvation survive, and it may take a girl like Deuce to turn back the tide.

Book Trailer
This one is animated!  Totally different.

**REVIEW**

Just when I thought it couldn't get any more high intensity, it did.  Enclave was such an intense fast paced read that when going into Outpost I figured it would slow down a little bit.  However the fast paced, heart pumping action and twists just kept on coming!  Deuce, Fade, Tegan and Stalker are all in a new place and adjusting to new circumstances and some will do better than others.

Deuce... Oh how you blow my mind.  She is just so strong and stubborn.  I love the stubborn so much and it is my favourite part about her.  Although so is starting to semi adjust she retains who she is and who she truly is, is not really welcome in her new home of Salvation.  Girls are supposed to be prim proper and at home, not out and on the front lines but Deuce needs to be.  She needs to be the Huntress as it is who she is and it wont ever change no matter where she is. She does know when she is wrong but also knows how to dance around the thin lines that can cause trouble.

Living on the surface is kind of pulling the four friends apart in this on.  Fade and Tegan seem to be fitting in just fine, while Deuce and Stalker remain apart from everyone.  This totally broke my heart in the start.  Knowing that they had all been so different and had many conflicts of interest and nothing really in common, I still figured after all they went through together that they would stick together.  Things do changes throughout the book and many developments are made.  Each person growing and becoming so much more than they were before.  Even Tegan seems to really grow in this one and I mean into someone that is stronger than she was.

The romance in this one was a little more complex and almost had me switching sides.  Oh Fade why must you evoke the need to scream?!  Not talking the girly scream either.  I am totally talking about the scream that details just how much rage I have for your idiotic boy tenancies.  However I do realize you are a boy so I breath in and out and fall back in love with you but I am warning you right this moment that Stalker and his devotion is threatening to steal my heart from you.  Despite his history and all that he did I am starting to move beyond that like Deuce and Stalker himself.  You can see the change and his new found ideas of what is wrong, actually he knows what he did was wrong now.  Plus his affection for Deuce doesn't waver.  Not even when she tells him her feelings for Fade.  Normally this would irritate me but many other factors make it kind of endearing.

There is also some new characters to love.  Namely Deuce's foster parents: Momma Oak's and Edward her husband.  They are so much more than they appear and I just want to hug Momma Oak's for her open care and love for Deuce.  She is treated like she is a legitimate child and not like some savage from the outside world.  This is the reason for some of the changes that start to occur in Deuce I am sure of it and for the simple fact that it is their doing I am okay with it.  I was actually surprised at just how easily these secondary characters slipped into the story and my heart.

Outpost has also upped the ante and gave everyone more to loose.  Not only that the odds aren't what they have seemed to be before and everyone need to prepare themselves for the worst.  I did say that this book just kept the pace going and the twist coming so you had to know that things were going to be a little more dangerous (or A LOT) and give you more to guess about.  The breath holding continues in this book because Ms. Aguirre is the type of author that leaves her characters open to be hurt... Maybe more.  This is something that I love about her and her books: no one is safe.  Just because you are well known does not mean that you are immune.

Hold on to your seats people because your are in for quite a ride with this one.  Ms Aguirre has created yet another outstanding novel that left me wanting more.  There is a dire need within me to know how everyone is doing and what the Freaks will do next.  We are shown the many sides of humanity and how different people deal with things.  Love, lust, envy, hate and anger all show their faces with many more emotions in the mix.  This book is the thing that nightmares are made of and where hope can come from.  If you haven't read Enclave I suggest you do so that you can move onto this spectacular novel!

Quotes & Bits

Mrs. James liked Tegan, much as all adults did, whereas she sighed at me, calling me an "unfortunate case of blighted potential," whatever that meant.
His kiss didn't surprise me. My response did.
Yet for Tegan, I'd go.  I'd try to make people like me, using an ability other than stabbing monsters with my knives.  If that wasn't a mark on true friendship, I couldn't imagine what one might be.
"Why is it that every time  I hear your voice, girl, I know my life's about to get more complicated?"

  5. That cover's scary, it really freaked me out when I first saw it. I think that is what's putting me off reading this series, I'm not sure. I probably will give it a go though. :)
