Fifteen-year-old Veronica “Ronnie” Lambert wants to get out from under her older brother’s shadow. When Ronnie gets a tattoo and then is struck by lightning, she suddenly finds herself able to see and hear things in shadows that don’t appear to others. Then Ronnie meets Gavin Clearwater, the hot new guy in all of her classes and finds out he can see and hear the same things she can.
Gavin tells her about the Spiral Defenders, a group of warriors that travels through space and time to defend the planets of the Spiral. After meeting the Commander of the Spiral Defenders and realizing his intentions might not be pure, Ronnie struggles between following her destiny to become a Spiral Defender and trying to regain the life she had before being struck by lightning.

1. If one of your characters were to describe you, how would it sound?
Some of my newer characters would think that I’m mean and pushy—and I am. What kind of story would it be if the main characters weren’t tested to their limits? Also, they would say I’m totally romantic, that everything I write has to have some kind of romantic element in it.
2. What do you believe would be the 'perfect' writing conditions/place?
I need to be alone to write, with music or background noise (such as the TV going). That doesn’t always happen with two little boys running around.
3. You find yourself as the main character in your book... What is the first thing you do?
Find Gavin. You always seek out the hottest guy in the novel first, right?
4. Who are some of your favorite Indie Ladies?
This list goes on for miles, so I’ll only mention a few: Tiffany King, M.r. Polish, Heather Hildenbrand, Elizabeth Sharp, Cambria Hebert, and Kendall Grey. But like I said, there are tons more great Indie Ladies out there that I love!

*Note: These are all amazing ladies but I recently read Ageless Sea by M.R. Polish... OMG!! So addicted <3
5. If you were able to write a book with anyone who would it be and why?
Another tough question. There are so many people I want to write with. My top three would be: Cassandra Clare, Heather Hildenbrand, and Tiffany King.
6. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree... What one of your characters is most like you?
Ronnie from Into the Spiral. I used a lot of what I was like as a teenager when I created her.
7. Do you look at reviews for your book? Why/Why not?
Yes. I love reading the good ones and I try to take constructive criticism from the bad ones.
8. Give some advice to the aspiring Indie Ladies out there...
Keep writing and reading. And put yourself out there long before your book is published. Knowing your craft and making connections are key in this business. You never know when you will meet your next best friend.

About the Author
Hello, everyone! I'm a mother of two beautiful boys, an avid reader as well as a now-published author. I LOVE anything Young Adult, though I usually gravitate towards the paranormal/supernatural/scifi sides of things.
FYI, even though they are still listed, the three books of the Mason Ridge Trilogy (Losing Control, Losing Heart, and Losing It All) have been discontinued. I hope to re-release them some time in the next couple years in one book titled, The Curse of Mason Ridge.

ooh I really like the sound of this book! I've read another book about getting struck by lightning but it had a different concept. I really like that she can see things in the shadows, but of course with every power there is a down side. :(
