**REVIEW** Alice in Zombieland by Gena Showalter

She won’t rest until she’s sent every walking corpse back to its grave. Forever.
Had anyone told Alice Bell that her entire life would change course between one heartbeat and the next, she would have laughed. From blissful to tragic, innocent to ruined? Please. But that’s all it took. One heartbeat. A blink, a breath, a second, and everything she knew and loved was gone.
Her father was right. The monsters are real….
To avenge her family, Ali must learn to fight the undead. To survive, she must learn to trust the baddest of the bad boys, Cole Holland. But Cole has secrets of his own, and if Ali isn’t careful, those secrets might just prove to be more dangerous than the zombies….

Just freaking WOW...   This is a serious don't put me down, read from front to back, awesome and mind blowing kind of read.  Gena Showalter is a talented writer and there is no denying that but after this book I will have to put her right up into my favorites!!!  There was ups and downs but overall I really enjoyed the read.  While this is not the fall down the rabbit hole kind of retelling, Gena Showalter has taken the more important aspects of Alice in Wonderland and twisted them in a wonderful and unique manner that includes Zombies!

Gena Showalter does not waste any time getting this book moving.  I mean there is no time for you to get board or even think "when do we get to the action?"  There is an entirely different world and take on Zombies created in this book and it was intriguing to say the least.  This meaning it is a new take on Zombies for me and to be honest it really caught my attention.  The way that Gena has created a unique world of Zombies and then built an entire story and back story around it is amazing!

Alice (aka Ali) was wonderful.  I mean there were moments after she lost everything that I just wanted to tell her to suck it up and put her big girl panties on but I get that it was a big loss.  When the time comes and she needs to step up and do what she was meant to do I will give her credit that she did.  Given she was told to sit in the background a few times and ended up in the thick of things anyway.  I admired her determination to do what she felt was right even when she was told to back off or that she couldn't.

There is a boy.  I mean a guy that will drop your jaw.  Girls prepare yourself for Cole.  I am not going to lie I may have missed a few things because I was busy day dreaming about him!   Though he is completely the typical bad boy and tries ever so not very politely to push Ali away several times I found myself hopelessly falling for him, over and over.  I know I am totally one of those girls that we all roll our eyes at and think of as a push over.  I mean the description of Cole alone had me hooked.  He didn't even have to open him mouth.

The romance is what I would have to call common but at the same time I think that my affection for Cole may have jazzed it up a bit.  They do however have amazing chemistry and I love the banter that happens between the two of them often.  Banter meaning he tells he no or tells her off and she stands up for herself and does what she wants for the most part.  So even if the relationship is rocky it has many hot and heated moments that make up for it!

Overall I loved this book.  I will eagerly look forward to getting my hands on the White Rabbit Chronicles a they come out.  Actually I am dying to get my hands on the next book and get more of Cole right now!  Pick this up if you love action, Zombies and a guy that will leave you begging for more!!

  4. I really enjoyed the twist on zombies that Showalter used in this book but sadly this book just ended up falling flat for me. I think it's because I was expecting more of a retelling of Alice in Wonderland. I'm happy to hear that a lot of people have enjoyed it though. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on book 2 when it comes out.
